Dr John Taggart LL.B, LL.M., Ph.D., Barrister (non-practising)
John has a background in legal practice and was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2013 and Lincoln’s Inn (England and Wales) in 2015.
His expertise lies in the effective participation of witnesses in the legal process and the securing of best evidence. Specialising in witness familiarisation and preparation, John advises and trains global law firms, international governments and various training institutes.
Most recently, John has advised the Human Rights Commission of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) as it develops and expands its Witness Intermediary Program. John has also worked with the Ministry of Justice (England and Wales) and the Department of Justice (Northern Ireland) on their respective witness intermediary models.
John has published widely in the areas of procedural fairness for vulnerable individuals and the use of intermediaries in the legal process. His new book, ‘Intermediaries In The Criminal Justice System’, will be published by Routledge in early 2025.
John speaks Spanish to B2 level of fluency.
